Nel corso degli ultimi dieci anni Tiane Doan ha collezionato riviste erotiche thailandesi risalenti agli anni ‘60 e ‘70. Vista che la rappresentazione della nudità era, all’epoca, vietata, la censura era applicata dalle riviste con grande attenzione e creatività. Per la creazione di questo progetto, Censored, l’artista ha selezionato dalla sua collezione oltre 4000 dettagli fotografici, esplorando il tema della censura e dell’erotismo.
Tiane Doan na Champassak (1973) è un’artista visivo francese. Negli ultimi 15 anni, ha sviluppato un articolato corpo di lavoro che miscela la sua personale produzione fotografica con tecniche di appropriazione, variazione, ri-uso e ripetizione.
Champassak sottopone materiali da internet, memorabilia personali, fotografia vernacolare e ritagli di riviste a una grande varietà di processi collegati all’arsenale concettuale del postmodernismo, sfidando temi come la sessualità, l’identità di genere e la censura.
Tutti i suoi libri in autoproduzione sono realizzati sotto il marchio Siam’s Guy Books e sono parte di collezioni private e pubbliche come MoMA, Getty Research Institute, ICP, Centre Pompidou, MEP, Tate etc.
Over the course of his travels for the last ten years Tiane Doan na Champassak has been collecting Thai erotic magazines dating back to the 1960s and 1970s. With representations of nudity banned at the time, the magazines’ censorship was applied with great creativity and care. For the creation of this project, Censored, the artist selected from his collection of over 4000 photographic details, exploring the themes of censorship and eroticism.
Tiane Doan na Champassak (1973) is a French visual artist. In the last 15 years, he has developed a complex body of work infusing his own photographic production with techniques of appropriation, variation, re-use and repetition. Champassak subjects materials from the internet, personal memorabilia, vernacular photography and magazine cuttings to a large variety of processes linked to the conceptual arsenal of postmodernism, challenging themes such as sexuality, gender identity and censorship. All his self-published books are released under the label Siam’s Guy Books and are part of important private and public collections such as MoMA, Getty Research Institute, ICP, Centre Pompidou, MEP, Tate etc.
